_oxidate photos downloadTaking group 2 of the off season crew through our pre lift technique 👌🏼teaching the boys how to Hinge at the hips; a vital movement competency prior to deadlifting! _We teach our athletes to Hinge or "break" at the hips and keep shins vertical to maintain maximum tension on the hamstrings. If you are bending at the knee/squatting down to the bar, you are in a quad dominant position, therefore missing what you're trying to achieve (posterior development). Play around with your deadlift technique next time, before "gripping and ripping" 😷 stand taller "hips high" and push knees back "shins vertical", you will feel when the hamstrings are engaged! _Tip: take the slack out of the weight, strength is tension. Squeeze latt's, jam big toe firmly down on the ground, bring hips through with maximal glute squeeze at top 💡_I've been to many work shops and seminars from big names in the coaching and fitness industry. Everything I learn I "try on". I use the "try it on" analogy with all of my clients, referring to instructions from a coach as to a shirt you get given; "try the advice on, see if it's the right fit? Does it feel right? Do you like it? Does it work for you?" I personally test out all of my programming, running myself through the same sessions as my athletes. #walkthetalk yes, but so I can understand how they feel during each activity, to then be able to communicate how to adjust! _It is important for youth athletes to understand that the coach is simply the coach. Instruction is given to help (hopefully) but the athlete has the ability to mould / adapt / adjust / recreate / enhance those instructions to suit the game situation. The same thing applies for coaches = if you learn something, try it out, if it works use it, if it's not "the right fit" adjust it and utilise a series of techniques/skills to recreate your own deliverance for best outcome! _Coaching is an art. Yes you need the science (technique/biomechanics) but if you cannot relay information to your audience in a platform they understand, then you might as well be (insert 4 week PT course certified) 🔥
